The First LED Super Bowl

February 1st, 2015:

Super Bowl XLIX made history as the first NFL event exclusively illuminated by LED lighting. That game was held at the 64,400 seat University of Phoenix Stadium.

The LED lighting project replaced 780 conventional metal halide lights with 312 LED stadium light fixtures from Ephesus Lighting.

According to the company, the new led fixtures provided brighter and more uniform light which eliminated shadows on the playing surface, not only creating a better stage for players, but also for fans in the stadium and those watching at home.

Since then, the NFL has upgraded all of their stadiums to LEDs, and every Super Bowl since that first LED Super Bowl in 2015, has been lit with them.
