November 1963:
A pop culture staple since it first appeared in November 1963 and one of Hasbro’s top-selling items of today, EASY-BAKE ovens continue to be cherished favorites for bakers-in-the-making. And while they discontinued using light bulbs as their heat / baking source in 2011, the oven continues to light up young faces today!
The original 1963 Kenner Toy Co. Easy Bake Oven baked small cakes with heat generated by two 100-watt incandescent light bulbs. Children could, as the advertising said, “bake their cake and eat it too.”
In 50 years, more than 30 million EASY-BAKE ovens have been sold and more than 150 million mix refills have been used. In 2006, the EASY-BAKE oven was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame.
